Zion Forever Project, the park’s nonprofit partner, runs the park store at the Zion Canyon Visitor Center and online. It sells mostly caps, from $21.99 to $32.99, plus bucket hats, beanies and kids’ hats.

Parks Project, The Landmark Project, PNW Apparel and Rainier Hat Co. make Zion caps the store doesn’t carry.

Shops in the park

Try one on before you pay, because most of these caps come in one size and it helps to see where the strap lands. Hours change with the season, so check the NPS hours page before you go.

The Zion Human History Museum has a smaller shop, open spring to fall, and the Kolob Canyons Visitor Center off I-15 sells gifts too.

Most of the store’s hats come from wholesale souvenir makers like American Needle, Concept 360 and Dorfman Pacific, so you’ll see the same caps in other park stores.

A Zion Circle membership starts at $50 a year and takes 15% off most things in the store.

Where the money goes

Zion Forever’s store page says 100% goes to Zion conservation, and that it has given more than $4.7 million to the park.

Parks Project says it has given more than $60,000 to Zion Forever, the park’s own nonprofit. Rainier Hat Co. says it donates 100% of its profits to the National Park Foundation and the National Parks Conservation Association. The Landmark Project’s impact page says it has given more than $1.7 million to its partners, including the NPCA.

The gift shop at Zion Lodge is run by Destination Zion Lodge, which pays the park a franchise fee, and 80% of that stays at Zion.

For hiking, get a real sun hat

Summer is hot with temperatures regularly over 100°F / 38°C.
From National Park Service, Zion: Spring, summer, fall, and winter

For Angels Landing in summer, get a hat with a brim all the way around, since none of these caps has a UPF rating or shades your ears or neck. At the park store, that means the wide-brim bucket, and there’s more for the trail in our Zion hiking hat guide.

It’s one of the $21.99 caps at Zion Forever, and the one we’d pick, since it’s the only one that says Zion National Park. The store’s other two $21.99 mesh caps, the Custom Kolob and the Custom Forever, say Kolob Canyons or Zion Forever on the front.

If you want more going on, the store’s $32.99 Daylight is an American Needle mesh-back cap with brown, teal and red stripes under a round patch. It comes in stone or black.

It’s orange, and the brim shades your ears and the back of your neck, which none of the caps do. It has a chin cord with a slider, so it stays on at an overlook or on the chains.

If you want a sized hat, the store’s $36.99 Soaker Patch has Zion embroidered on it and comes in three sizes. Its listing doesn’t say how wide the brim is.

Downsides

It’s listed in one size, but the hat in the photo wears an L/XL sticker, so ask the store first if you have a small head.

The listing says Parks Project has given more than $60,000 to Zion Forever, the nonprofit that runs the park store. You can machine wash it cold and dry it flat, while Rainier Hat Co.’s caps are hand wash only and the other brands don’t say.

Parks Project lists head sizes in inches, which none of the other brands do, and says it fits true to size. There’s more on the brand in our Parks Project guide.

Downsides

Parks Project calls the look oversized, and the crown is 6.5 inches, so it isn’t a low cap. Shipping is free only on US orders over $125. Exchanges are free in the US, but a refund costs $9.

PNW Apparel offers more color choices than most of the Zion caps here, including navy on white mesh and brown on khaki.

The woven patch has a red-rock canyon with the park’s name under it. Woven patches show finer detail than embroidered ones and lie flat. Shipping is free.

Embroidered caps

Rainier Hat Co. makes two Zion caps, Angels Landing and The Narrows. Instead of a patch, the whole front is panoramic embroidery, and both show a view from a spot on the trail. There’s more on the company in our Rainier Hat Co. guide.

It’s the view south from the summit, with the Virgin River below and a rock squirrel on a ledge.

The wide embroidered view is the reason to pay more for this cap. It needs hand washing, while Parks Project’s cotton cap can go in the machine. Rainier Hat Co. includes US shipping and returns within 30 days.

Downsides

At $44.99, it’s the most expensive Zion cap here. The cotton crown has no mesh, so it runs warmer than a trucker, and the back of the embroidery isn’t lined. It comes in one size.

The view looks upstream along the Virgin River between the canyon walls, with a gray fox drinking at the edge. The cap shares the Angels Landing version’s shape, with a blue brim instead of teal. The choice between them is mostly which part of Zion you want to remember.

Downsides

The same as the Angels Landing cap: $44.99, one size, and a cotton crown with no mesh.

It’s a green bucket hat with a chin cord and Zion National Park embroidered on the front. A version with yellow Junior Ranger lettering costs the same and comes in the same sizes. The store’s other $19.99 youth bucket, from Dorfman Pacific, comes in whatever color the store picks.
